It depends upon the airlines. Local airlines here charge it under sports equipments which is more costly than regular luggages. Mostly if it is just one or a couple of passengers, they can waive that or charge it as a bag but since you are in a group, that involves a lot of weight so that might cost more. Call the airline’s reservation agent…they might be able to offer you a deal and when they do request for special service request padnoting so that it is documented in your itinerary and they cannot turn around and deny you what the agent offered.
